Capt. Henry William PARIS

1.  The Paris family had moved to the Big Creek community in 1851 about the same time the Cunninghams moved into the county.

2.  Henry served in the Civil War and held the rank of Captain in Company "C" 42nd Regiment of Georgia Infantry, Stovall's Brigade, Clayton's Division, Lee's Corps, attached to the Army of Tennessee CSA.

3.  He was captured @ Keene, Kentucky on 24 Nov 1862 and paroled @ Vicksburg, Mississippi 6 Jul 1863.


Col. Richard PEARIS "Sr"

1.  Richard became a prominent Indian trader in Virginia and South Carolina, making his alliance with the British during the American Revolution.

2.  He was recognized as the first white settler in Greenville, South Carolina, moving into the area in 1768.  

3.  He also kept a Cherokee wife, by whom he had two children.


Col. George PEARIS

1.  George & Sarah Pearis were Irish immigrants who eventually settled at Winchester, Frederick, Virginia
