Edmond MATHAIS

Elizabeth Marinda BEASLEY

Agustus Amos "Austin" BEASLEY "II"

1.  Austin had sold the slaves he inherited from his father to his brother, Bass, before he left North Carolina.  He owned no slaves in Alabama.

2.  Austin moved to Butler County, Alabama where he married Celia and settled in Ozark, Dale County, Alabama.

3.  Austin Jr. served in the Alabama volunteer during the Creek War....filed WA 532 1 Sep 1892.

4.  On November 6, 1864, Austin received a blast of buckshot into his hip.  A trap had been set up in a blind by a neighbor named Deloney.  The Injury plagued Austin and grieved Mr. Deloney for the remainder of their lives.

5.  In those early days, it was the custom for a mother to remain in bed for ten days following the birth of a child.  When Austin's injury occurred,  Eleanor was still in bed following the birth of her twelfth and last child, Sarah Elizabeth, on the ninth day of "lying-in".  Eleanor ordered a horse be brought around, got out of bed, put on a cloak, and went to the aid of her husband.  The weather was inclement and  Eleanor suffered phlobitis thereafter, which she believed to be the result of the events of that ninth day of lying-in.

6.  It is reported that Austin was a hugh man....weighing 350 pounds.
