Art Corley said:  Samuel Ben Franklin Kuykendall deserted the Confederate Army to join the Union Army during the Civil War.  He swam a river with his boots on to escape, while being shot at by Confedrate Soldiers.

Annie Elliott said:  S.B.F. Kuykendall joined the Confederacy because of family influence, even though he was undecided.  But, after seeing a white man beating a slave, he decided he couldn't fight for the South and deserted to the North.
