William Thomas SIMS "Sr"

1.  William T. Sims, son of Hall and Annie Jones Sims was born in Kentucky in 1814 and brought to Illinois by his parents.  William T. married Margaret [Peggy] Zimmerly whose parents Jacob and Sarah Zimmerly came from Virginia to Kentucky then to Illinois in 1837.  His opportunities for gaining an education during boyhood were very limited, though by home study, being of quick perception, he succeeded in securing a good education.  He began business for himself at age of 20 with some assistance from his father;  the assistance being 40 acres of good land in the timba.  By hard work, contrary and good management, he accumulated 275 acrews of first class land valued at $50.00 an acre.  He served as a Christian preacher and contributed liberally to any enterprise tending to the public good.  He died April 26, 1896.  The children of William T. Sims and Margaret Zimmerly Sims were:  l.  John C., 2 Wright Sims, 3 William Sims, 4 Austin Sims, 5 Cinda Sims Wright, 6 Lizzie Sims Shipley, and 7 Sarah Ann Sims Vanhoutin.
