2.  Article in The Carthaginian on 10/13/1924:  JESS BARNETT KILLED SATURDAY BY SAM WELLS.  Wells wounded by son of dead man--arrests made Kosciusko, Mississippi.  Jess Barnett was shot and killed this morning by Sam Wells, who in turn was shot and seriously woulded by R. T. Barnett, son of the dead man.  All of the participants in the affray are farmers living at Center, in this county, where the shooting occurred.  It seems that they had had a difficulty yesterday and last night at Barnett's house, in which several shots were exchanged.  This morning Barnett and his son were on the way to Kosciusko with a bale of cotton, when they were met on the road by Wells and the trouble was renewed.  Wells shot and killed the elder Barnett and turned to run.  As he did so, the younger Barnett secured the shotgun held by his father and fired three times at the fleeing man, literally peppering him with shot.  Deputy Sheriff Harvey Gilland went to the scene and arrested Wells and brought him here and placed him in the county jail, where  he is under medial treatment.  Young Barnett made bond to appear here after his father's funeral.  Wells and the Barnetts are well known over the county and the affair created considerable excitement.  Though seriously wounded Wells is expected to recover.

3.  Gray:  Quite a number from shis community attended the funeral of J. S. Barnett at Rocky Point Sunday afternoon.  We extend deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.
